CU Buffs no longer pillow fighting

Colorado coach Jon Embree grinned for a moment Tuesday after practice when I asked him how his team is adapting to 9-on-7 run drills being a regular part of practice.

“Today was significantly better,” Embree said. “You could tell yesterday was their first time doing something like that, for some of them ever. Today was a lot better. There was a little more intensity. You could hear the pads. Yesterday was like a pillow fight. Today we’re hitting. So that was encouraging, especially with it being the fifth consecutive day. I mean they were a lot of energy and you could tell they were physical and they’re figuring it out.”

Colorado rarely used 9-on-7 drills or inside run drills in the past under coach Dan Hawkins. A much larger percentage of practice is dedicated to practicing the running game now and practices are much more physical.
