Stripling moves up at Central Michigan

There was a lot of discussion during the second half of the 2009 season about possible candidates to replace coach Dan Hawkins at CU if he was fired. Obviously, those conversations have been put on hold for at least a year, maybe much longer if Hawkins finally starts producing some better results.

I bring this up because some lamented the lack of qualified coaches with Colorado ties who could be considered if the head coaching job opened up in Boulder.

Here is one:  Steve Stripling was named interim head coach at Central Michigan on Wednesday after Butch Jones moved on to take the head coaching job at Cincinnati, which was vacated by Brian Kelly who left for Notre Dame.

Stripling has 30 years of coaching experience with much of it in the Big Ten Conference. He played at Colorado in the 1974 and 1975 seasons and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Boulder. He also worked as a graduate assistant at CU in 1977 and 1978.

Stripling might be a name for CU fans to keep in the back of their minds as we move forward into 2010.
