Powder blue crew supporting Buffs

CU student Taylor Rhode emailed me and several other members of the media today to let us know he is hoping to finish the season this week against Nebraska with a show of support for the Colorado football team.

Rhode was one of the students who organized the  ”Wear POWDER BLUE to the CU
game” facebook event a few weeks ago.

Here is part of his email. Make sure to check out the link.

“I started another event encouraging everyone to go to the game and wear their
BLACK & GOLD to show the players we are still here and still support them.  The
original message of the powder blue was lost on a lot of people, so I wanted to
show that the intent was, and still is, to support the players on the team.

“The guys on the team, especially the seniors, have been through a tough year. We
want them to know we support them through the good times and the rough patches.
The players are out there working their tails off, and we will be in the stands
supporting them next Friday.

“I also wanted to encourage everyone to show up before the game starts, and stay
until after it is over. If anything I just want people to be aware about the game and go to it.  The
last thing I ever want to see in Folsom are empty seats.”

I think it's great that the kids are making sure their message of support gets out to the fans and players.

Um, yeah, when I was there that was called "going to the games."

The response from a CU player when he was told by someone what the light blue shirts at the game meant (and I quote): "That is bullshit."

So I'm not about to go celebrate some kid and his buddies now going back to wearing black and gold when it was something that they should have been doing the whole time. And I would imagine that would be the players' response as well.

CJ, maybe you should lay off the students a little bit. Although I was not wearing powder blue, I understood the point and no matter what plati or anyone else says, there were more than 250 powder blue fans attending the game. Also, I don't really think that anyone would have to explain the powder blue to the players, the story played out in the media during the days leading up to the game. Give the kid credit for going out there and throwing his support behind the team, even though the struggles continue and the idea was a little off to begin with. By the way, the team is 3-8 and there has been more than 9,000 students at every game, with all 12,500 student tickets sold. On the other hand, there seemed to be about 10,000+ Texas A&M fans at the last home game, the only reason why there was a decent number of people at the game. Don't blame the students, they've witnessed some of the worst seasons in recent history, but still show up for the games (even if they're a little late, I know its kind of hard to get up for an 11:30 game on a saturday when you're in college). It is their college and their team, so lay off a bit.

  3. CJBUFF says:

Dude, you're missing the point. I'm not blaming the students. The Buffs being 3-8 is not their fault. All I was saying was if you want to show your support of the players, go to the games. It's not a hard formula to crack. If you want to show visiting recruits that Folsom Field is a killer place for them to play, go to the games. Get drunk. Be loud.

And yes, they're the ones currently in college, but it is still my team, your team, our team. It's no wonder we don't have the alumni support we should when the idea is that you can't love or have an opinion about the team when you graduate.

To anyone going to the game, have a great time. We're all hoping for a strong finish.

And one thing we can all agree on–Go Buffs.

  4. Since when did this guy become the world's leading authority on fan attire?

No offense, but I'm not listening to the students when in the past 4 years they have added some lame choreography to the fight song ("Roll up that mighty score" does no require fans to spin their hands around to illustrate the rolling action. I hate that the student section decided to incorporate the cheerleaders' routine into their cheering.) and they have decided that any victory is suddenly an excuse to storm the field. It completely ridiculous.

Now this guy wants to tell me when it's ok to wear black and gold? Get over yourself. This isn't about you, students!!! This is about the program, which will be here long after you leave with your lame ideas.
