After spending the past three days in Dallas talking with a lot of my fellow reporters in the Big 12 Conference, I’ve come to the conclusion that a lot of them really don’t know what to make of the Buffs in 2009.
There was absolutely no consensus when it comes to Dan Hawkins’ team.
Some believe Colorado is still going to struggle to be a winning team in 2009. Many of those folks just don’t believe the Buffs have a quarterback capable of leading the team to a bowl. I guess they forgot Cody Hawkins did that in 2007 when he also beat Oklahoma.
Some feel like the Buffs really have a chance to be better with more experience and fewer injuries. Some believe the Buffs will be very similar to last year but will probably make a bowl because the schedule is a bit easier. Others, believe it or not, are even willing to believe that this team is capable of reaching the 10 wins Hawkins challenged his team to achieve.
As for me, I’m not ready to make any predictions about this season. I’ve learned over my six years covering this program that a lot can change between now and the first game of fall camp. I’ll have to get back to you later in August.
